Rachel Parsons

Trainer

The relationship between horses and horses, horses and people, and people and people has always interested me! So (unsurprisingly to my friends) I am an Equine Behaviourist and Rider Mindset Coach.
In the last year – with my colleague Joanna Lowes – we have taught over 300 people to transform their own and their horses’ lives using practical and psychological skills to build calm confidence, motivation and harmony – in and out of the saddle.

I am also a part time business sustainability and Serious Play facilitator. Both industries are in a period of massive cultural transition. People want change and are actively looking to redesign ineffective, socially inappropriate older systems and long-held truths – slowly we are innovating and playing towards better.

Horses as Teachers

For over 40 years I’ve lived and learned alongside horses. A highlight was 6 years in Australia farming, where horses-for-work & Natural Horsemanship was simply the norm. My childhood UK Pony Club training was pretty useless! Especially when weekends meant roping feral horses from the bush and bringing them back to the farm to train, and sell as children’s ponies. They were extraordinary creatures.
Back in the UK, I worked with “last chance” horses, transforming behaviour but watching owners struggle to keep progress. Frustrated, I stepped away from public horse work for 20 years, focusing on business and coaching humans, while keeping NH for my own horses.

Collaboration

My great friend Joanna Lowes never left horses-working with Monty Roberts as his driver and tour rider. In 2024, while visiting Jo in West Wales, I saw the heartbreak of an owner in crisis. She needed training & support just as much as her horse! It was very obvious that if just the horse had an education nothing was going to change. She was the real problem – or the real opportunity – for long term changed. Two months later Jo and I launched weekend clinics. Within a year, over 300 people joined us, with 100% recommending our work.

Cultural Intervention

At every clinic we meet people facing anxiety, trauma, outdated bravery, poor goal-setting, and gaps in horsemanship and mindset. Together, we unpack these challenges and rebuild. We teach people and horses to self-regulate, stay calm, and reconnect through practical skills and mindset tools.
What is totally amazing is that even after 1 day we have people coming back who say they have changed their life in the face of chronic challenge. Our horses are leading us, inviting us to transform ourselves – we just need to open our eyes.

My Approach

Most of my clients come to us/me in crisis – after hard times-falls, fear, anxiety, grief, trauma, family problems, violence, bullying etc. Our horse-human nervous systems are connected; when we’re stuck, our horses feel it. We can’t lie to them.
I create a calm, non-judgemental space for both to rebuild confidence and joy. Horses, too, carry stress or PTSD-rearing, loading issues, shutdown. I help them release tension, sometimes starting from scratch or adapting training for limb-impaired riders.

How I Can Help You

Horses:

  • Call Outs, Clinics & Lessons – in-person horsemanship & behaviour support for rearing, loading, bucking, pushiness, mounting problems. I’ll teach you both how to move forward.

People:

  • Clinics in West Wales – one weekend per month.
  • Online Coaching – 1-2 hr mindset intervention & life coaching sessions.
  • 7-Day Action on Anxiety Program – find calm, confidence & clarity – a deep dive on reprogramming your brain, patterns and habits.

Why I Do This Work

I’ve lost and rebuilt my confidence 3 times with horses, and the 4th time I had something like a nervous breakdown. Each time I proved it’s possible to rewire, grow calmer, braver, and more resilient. I have found the learning has positively affected my life in so many ways and it is an absolute privilege to host others through this journey.
