Liz Eaton

Trainer

I had a very traditional start to my life with horses. I learned to ride at the local riding school, progressing through the Pony Club and on to BHS career training.
Once I gained the Senior Coach certificate I wanted independence so started my own business as a Freelance coach. After a couple of years teaching I got itchy feet so set off to see how they did things in Australia.
This was my first taste of a different approach. I worked on a stud where we had to bring in and handle semi feral youngsters. The hours spent in a round pen taught me me more about horses than I had learned in the previous 15 years.
I returned to the UK and continued my career with a renewed passion for learning.
Over the next 20 years I competed eventing and dressage, trained horses and people and explored Alexander technique and Pilates.
Around 2004 one of my students became a Parelli Instructor and I was introduced to another new world. After gaining my BHS Performance Coach in 2008 I decided to expand my horizons once again.
I was introduced to Linda Parelli and she offered my a scholarship to do a months intensive course. This had a profound effect on my approach to training horses and people and opened my eyes to other ideologies and training philosophies. Since then I have looked for every opportunity for learning and sharing knowledge.

I believe the key to a joyful partnership with a horse lies in finding balance.
Balance of emotion in horse and rider
Balance in two way communication
The Horse learning to balance carrying a rider
The Rider being balanced independently from the horse

I am fortunate that I have been able to share this philosophy other countries and as a result Croatia asked me to become Coach to their Dressage team.
It’s a privilege to play a part in a country developing their equestrian program.
In 2023 I was awarded the Fellowship of the British Horse Society. An honour that only 52 currently hold.
I am grateful for opportunity I have to meet new horses and people and share stories. After all we are all students of The Horse.
